In 1992, Michelle came to the University of Arizona Hillel Foundation after working for six years at the University of Michigan Hillel. She earned a B.A. in Sociology and Women’s Studies and an MA in Social Work from the University of Michigan. She truly enjoys engaging UA students, getting to know them as they are exploring their own Jewish journeys. She has a passion for creating community and bringing Hillel to the table as a partner both on campus and in the Tucson community. Her door is open and she invites students to stop by to chit chat.
Charae graduated from Chaparral Business School and has been a part of UA Hillel for sixteen years. Charae REALLY love the Dallas Cowboys, watching SVU, reading and crafting. Her husband, Steve, retired from the military after serving 37 years and now works for Lockheed Martin working on F-16’s in Iraq. Charae and Steve are Grandparents to Blye and Bowen Stewart. Charae’s position enables her to be a surrogate mom at Hillel and she loves shooting the breeze. Stop in and say "Hi!”
In 2007, Abbii graduated from the University of Arizona with a dual major in Judaic Studies and Communication. After graduating she worked for a year at the American Hebrew Academy, the only pluralistic Jewish boarding school in the US. At AHA she discovered her passion for programming and working with Jewish young adults. She then spent two years as the Senior Engagement Coordinator at Hofstra Hillel. After her time with Hillel she spent the next eight years as the Youth and Teen Director at the Aaron Family Jewish Community Center of Dallas. She is so excited to be coming back to Tucson and joining the UA Hillel staff. Abbii is passionate about community service, building strong relationships with others, the KC Chiefs, Minnesota Twins, travel, and her family, which includes the world’s cutest dog named Snickers!
My name is Nirit Gelfer. I am the Israel Fellow for the University of Arizona and I’m glad to be part of the Tucson team. I am originally from a moshav (small village) in Israel. After high school, I volunteered at a boarding school for a year and then joined the Israeli Defense Forces. I served three years in the IDF as a soldier and officer. After my service, I traveled around the world. Traveling is definitely one of my favorite hobbies! When I returned, I went to college in Northern Israel and studied special education and art. I spent time in the US as a summer camp counselor and last year I was the Israel Fellow at UCF. I love working with people and connecting students to Israel. Please drop by and introduce yourself or look for me on campus.
